The Band

Optical Faze is a brazilian modern metal band that started in 2000 and is formed by Mateus Araújo (vocals/guitars), Jorge Rabelo (guitars), Pedro Gabriel (keyboards/synths), Renato Carvalho (drums) and Vicente Júnior (bass).

Already in 2001, the group was playing in big festivals such as the Porão do Rock (the band was considered by the official Porão do Rock magazine the revelation of 2001). They released their first CD in 2004, simply titled "I", which was received with praise by brazilian and international press.

With the departure of singer Marco Lindoso two days after the show to launch their first album, the band went through a process of reinvention. The search for a new singer was long and arduous. In the end, the band noted that the solution was a lot closer than they thought.

Mateus decided to try and sing a couple of songs in a rehearsal. His performance pleased and he continued singing in the following band rehearsals. With his evolution, he officially became Optical Faze's singer and the band decided to record a new EP titled Riots in the Iris Sea. With a rawer, more organic approach to the band's style, the album had a limited edition and is now only available on the Internet.

After years of playing in Brasília and throughout Brazil, Optical Faze celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2010 with the release of the single Black Hole Iris, with two tracks released exclusively in digital format. The two tracks were widely praised and made room for more grandiose plans.

Throughout 2011, the band wrote the material for their first full-length album in eight years, that was recorded through January 2012 at Surplus Sound studio, Los Angeles, USA.

The album, titled The Pendulum Burns, was produced and mixed by Rhys Fulber, was mastered by Maor Appelbaum and has guest appearances by guitarist Jed Simon and singer Leah Randi. It also contains original artwork by Michal Karcz.

THE PENDULUM BURNS was released in Brazil on January 11th and the band is looking forward to release it worldwide.
